Microsoft 365: How to Reset Your Own Password

If you've forgotten your Microsoft 365 password or are locked out, you may be able to reset it yourself without calling IT — if Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) is enabled on your account. Step 1: Go to the reset page On any device with internet access, go to: https://aka.ms/sspr Or at the Microsoft sign-in page, click "Forgot my password." Step 2: Enter your email address Enter your full work email address (e.g. [email protected]) and complete the CAPTCHA. Step 3: Verify your identity You'll be asked to verify who you are using one or more methods you set up previously: - Text or call to your mobile number - Microsoft Authenticator app notification or code - Alternate email address code If you haven't set up verification methods yet, self-service reset won't be available and you'll need to contact us. Step 4: Create a new password Enter and confirm your new password. Microsoft 365 password requirements: - Minimum 8 characters - Must include: uppercase letter, lowercase letter, number, and special character (!, @, #, $, etc.) - Cannot be a recently used password Step 5: Sign in with your new password Once reset, sign in to office.com with your new password. You may be prompted to update saved passwords in your browser. Update saved passwords everywhere: After resetting, update the password in: - Outlook (if it prompts — just enter the new password) - Outlook on your phone - Microsoft Teams on your phone - Any other apps that use your Microsoft 365 account If SSPR doesn't work or you're fully locked out: Call us at (269) 261-0269. Setting up SSPR verification methods (before you need it): Go to https://aka.ms/mysecurityinfo while logged in and add your mobile number and/or alternate email. This ensures self-service reset will be available when you need it.
