Multi-factor authentication adds a critical second layer of security to Microsoft 365 accounts. To enable MFA, sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center at admin.microsoft.com, go to Users > Active users, and select Multi-factor authentication from the top menu. Check the box next to the user(s) and click Enable.
Once enabled, users will be prompted to set up their second factor on next login. The recommended method is the Microsoft Authenticator app. Users should download the app on their smartphone, select "Add account," choose "Work or school account," and scan the QR code displayed during setup.
If a user loses access to their authenticator, an admin can reset their MFA methods from the same panel. Always ensure backup contact methods (email or phone) are configured before enforcing MFA organization-wide.
