Setting Up Microsoft Authenticator App

Microsoft 365 authenticator MFA app mobile By Cade · Updated 03/05/26 07:09 AM
The Microsoft Authenticator app provides push notification approvals and time-based one-time passwords (TOTP) for MFA. Install it from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). To link it to a Microsoft 365 account: on a computer, go to aka.ms/mfasetup and sign in. Choose "Mobile app" as the verification method and select "Receive notifications for verification." Click Set up — a QR code will appear. On your phone, open Authenticator, tap the + icon, choose Work or school account, and scan the QR code. Test the setup by clicking Next on the computer and approving the test notification on your phone. If you get a new phone, an admin must reset your MFA methods before you can re-enroll. Advise users to back up their Authenticator accounts using the app's built-in cloud backup feature to simplify device migrations.
