Microsoft 365 Connectivity and Network Testing

Microsoft 365 connectivity network testing performance By Cade · Updated 03/05/26 07:09 AM
Microsoft provides a dedicated tool to test Microsoft 365 network connectivity: connectivity.office.com. Run this test from the user's computer to measure latency, DNS resolution, and connectivity to Microsoft's service endpoints. Key metrics to review: Exchange Online latency (target < 100ms), SharePoint latency (target < 200ms), and whether the network egresses locally (traffic should not be backhauled through a central office or VPN for Microsoft 365). The tool will flag issues like proxy servers intercepting Microsoft traffic or missing optimized routing. For ongoing monitoring, Microsoft 365 network connectivity is visible in the admin center under Health > Network connectivity. This shows per-office connectivity scores over time. Common fixes include adding Microsoft 365 URLs to VPN split tunneling, disabling SSL inspection for Microsoft endpoints, and ensuring DNS resolves to Microsoft's nearest data center.
