Fixing USB Devices Not Recognized in Windows

'USB device not recognized' errors occur when Windows cannot communicate with the connected device. Start by trying a different USB port and a different cable — faulty cables and ports are common culprits. Try the device on another computer to rule out hardware failure. In Device Manager (devmgmt.msc), look for Unknown Device under Universal Serial Bus controllers. Right-click and select Update driver. If that fails, right-click and Uninstall device, then reconnect the USB device to let Windows re-detect it. For persistent issues, a USB power management setting often causes problems: in Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus controllers, right-click each USB Root Hub, go to Properties > Power Management, and uncheck 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'. Also try disabling USB selective suspend in Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > USB settings.
