Setting Up a Guest Wi-Fi Network

A guest network provides internet access to visitors while isolating them from your internal business network. This prevents guests from accessing file servers, printers, and other internal resources. Most business-grade routers and access points support this natively. In the router admin panel, enable the Guest Network option (usually under Wireless or Wi-Fi settings). Set a separate SSID (e.g., 'BattleCreek-Guest'), use WPA2 or WPA3 with a strong password, and ensure 'Client Isolation' or 'AP Isolation' is enabled — this prevents guest devices from communicating with each other. Set bandwidth limits on the guest network to prevent guests from consuming all available bandwidth. Use a different subnet (e.g., 192.168.10.x) for the guest network and ensure the firewall blocks guest-to-LAN traffic. Rotate the guest Wi-Fi password periodically and post it visibly in the lobby or waiting area.
