Setting Up a Hunt Group or Ring Group

VoIP & phone systems hunt group ring group call distribution VoIP By Kerry · Updated 03/05/26 07:38 AM
A hunt group (or ring group) distributes incoming calls to multiple extensions, ensuring calls are answered even when one person is busy or unavailable. Configure it in the PBX admin panel under Ring Groups or Hunt Groups. Ring strategies: Simultaneous (all phones ring at once — fastest answer time), Sequential/Linear (ring first extension, then next if no answer — gives priority to one person), Least Recent (ring the extension that received a call least recently — balanced distribution), Round Robin (cycle through extensions in order). Assign a pilot number or extension to the group. Configure the timeout (how long to ring before sending to voicemail or another destination). Add a group voicemail box so callers can leave a message if no one answers. For support or sales teams, simultaneous ringing is usually preferred. For reception where one person should answer first, use sequential. Review call reports monthly to ensure calls are being answered within acceptable timeframes.
