Configuring time-based routing ensures callers are properly handled outside business hours and on holidays. In most VoIP platforms, this is done with Business Hours schedules applied to the main inbound number or auto attendant.
Set up a Business Hours schedule defining open hours (e.g., Monday–Friday 8am–5pm). Outside these hours, route calls to an after-hours voicemail, an after-hours auto attendant message ('We are currently closed...'), or an on-call mobile number.
For holidays, create a separate Holiday Schedule listing specific dates. The holiday schedule should take priority over the standard business hours schedule. Test time-based routing by temporarily changing the system clock or using the 'time condition override' feature if your PBX supports it. Assign an admin to update the holiday schedule annually in advance. Some platforms support emergency announcements — configure one for weather closures or unexpected outages, with a one-click activation from the admin panel.
