Setting Up Call Recording for Compliance

VoIP & phone systems call recording compliance VoIP storage By Cade · Updated 03/05/26 07:38 AM
Call recording captures conversations for training, quality assurance, and legal compliance. Before enabling recording, verify the legal requirements for your jurisdiction — many states and countries require one-party or two-party consent. Always play a disclosure message ('This call may be recorded') to ensure compliance. In most hosted VoIP platforms, call recording can be enabled per user, per ring group, or for all calls in the admin portal. Recordings are stored in the cloud or on a local server depending on your platform. Set a retention policy — 30–90 days is common for quality assurance; legal or financial industries may require 7 years. For on-premises 3CX, recordings are stored in the 3CX data directory. Configure automatic backup of the recordings folder. Access recordings through the 3CX management console or the 3CX web client. Restrict access to recordings to supervisors and HR — recordings contain sensitive customer and employee conversations. Audit access logs periodically.
