No Internet Connection — Troubleshooting Steps

Network / Internet internet no connection WiFi network offline By Kerry · Updated 03/04/26 10:34 PM
No internet access? Before calling us, work through these steps — most connectivity issues can be resolved in a few minutes. Step 1: Determine the scope Is it just your computer, or is everyone in the office affected? Check with a coworker or try another device on the same Wi-Fi. - If just you: the problem is with your device or connection - If everyone: the problem is with the router, modem, or internet service Step 2: Restart your router and modem (if the whole office is down) Unplug the power from your modem (the box from your ISP) and your router. Wait 30 seconds. Plug the modem in first, wait for it to fully connect (usually 1–2 minutes), then plug in the router. Wait another minute, then test. Step 3: Check your Wi-Fi connection (if just your device) Click the Wi-Fi icon in the taskbar. Make sure you're connected to the correct network. If shown as "Connected, no internet," go to step 5. Step 4: Run the Windows Network Troubleshooter Right-click the network icon in the taskbar > Troubleshoot problems. Follow the prompts — Windows can often fix common issues automatically. Step 5: Release and renew your IP address Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run: ipconfig /release ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /renew Step 6: Try forgetting and reconnecting to Wi-Fi Click the Wi-Fi icon > select your network > Forget. Then reconnect by selecting the network and entering the password. Step 7: Check if the issue is a specific website If some websites work but others don't, the issue may be with DNS. Try visiting a site using its IP address, or change your DNS to 8.8.8.8 (Google). Contact us at (269) 261-0269 if the internet is down for the whole office.
