How to Set Up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on Microsoft 365

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds a second layer of security to your Microsoft 365 account. Even if someone steals your password, they can't get in without your phone. We strongly recommend all users set this up. What you'll need: - Your smartphone - The Microsoft Authenticator app (free — download from the App Store or Google Play) Step 1: Download Microsoft Authenticator On your phone, download the Microsoft Authenticator app from your app store. Open it once to get it set up. Step 2: Go to the MFA setup page On your computer, go to https://aka.ms/MFASetup and sign in with your Microsoft 365 work email and password. Step 3: Follow the setup wizard Microsoft will walk you through adding your authentication method: 1. Select "Mobile app" as your verification method 2. Choose "Receive notifications for verification" (easier) or "Use verification code" 3. Click Set up app 4. Open Microsoft Authenticator on your phone, tap the + button, select "Work or school account," and scan the QR code shown on your screen Step 4: Test it Microsoft will send a test notification to your phone. Approve it. Setup is complete. Going forward: When you sign in to Microsoft 365, after entering your password you'll get a prompt on your phone. Open Authenticator and tap Approve. Lost your phone or got a new one? Contact us immediately so we can reset your MFA before you get locked out. Don't wait until you're locked out.
