Teams guest access allows external users (clients, contractors, vendors) to participate in Teams channels and meetings without a Microsoft 365 license. Guests sign in with any email address and access the team through the Teams web client or app.
To enable guest access: Teams admin center > Org-wide settings > Guest access > toggle to On. Guests can be added to teams by team owners: click the team name > Add member > enter the external email address. The guest receives an email invitation and can join after accepting.
Guest permissions can be controlled at the org level (Teams admin center) and at the team level. By default, guests can join meetings, view and post in channels, and share files. Admins can restrict guests from creating channels, deleting messages, or accessing chats. Consider implementing Azure AD B2B policies for more granular control. Audit guest membership quarterly — remove guests who no longer need access. Guests see only the teams they're explicitly added to, not the rest of your organization.
