A multi-level auto attendant in 3CX handles complex call routing — for example, main menu (press 1 for Sales, press 2 for Support, press 3 for Billing), with each option routing to a sub-menu or directly to a ring group.
In 3CX management console: go to Auto Attendants > Add. Record or upload your greeting (professional voice recording is worth the investment — free TTS is also available). Set each digit's destination: extension, ring group, voicemail, another auto attendant, or an external number. Configure the timeout action (what happens if caller doesn't press anything after the greeting plays).
For multi-level menus: create separate auto attendants for each level (e.g., 'Sales Menu,' 'Support Menu') and point the relevant keys in the main auto attendant to these sub-menus. Test every path by calling the main number and navigating all options. Common mistakes: timeout set too short (callers still listening when menu repeats), no option to reach a live person, and not testing the caller experience from an external phone.
