Mobile VoIP: Configuring Remote Work on Cell Phones

VoIP & phone systems mobile VoIP remote work softphone 3CX app By Kerry · Updated 03/05/26 07:51 AM
Remote workers and mobile employees can use their business phone system extension on their smartphone, enabling them to make and receive business calls using the company number — not their personal mobile number. This keeps personal and business calls separate and maintains the professional caller ID. For 3CX: users download the 3CX app (iOS or Android) and scan the QR code from the 3CX web client welcome email — this auto-configures the app. Alternatively, enter the 3CX FQDN, extension, and password manually. The app works over Wi-Fi and cellular data. Enable push notifications so the app can receive calls when it's in the background. For other platforms (RingCentral, 8x8, Vonage): download the respective app and sign in with the user's credentials. Test by calling the extension from another phone and from an external number. Train users to use the app's dialpad for outbound calls (not the phone's native dialer) to ensure calls show the business caller ID. Advise users on cellular data usage — each call uses approximately 1-2 MB per minute.
