Managing Voicemail-to-Email Configuration

VoIP & phone systems voicemail to email VoIP notification email By Cade · Updated 03/05/26 07:51 AM
Voicemail-to-email delivers voicemail notifications (and optionally the audio file as an attachment) to the user's email inbox. This ensures voicemails aren't missed and provides a searchable record of voice messages. In 3CX: Admin > Users > select user > Voicemail tab. Enter the email address in 'Send voicemail to email.' Options: 'Send email notification only' (email without the audio file) or 'Send email with audio attachment' (attaches a .wav or .mp3 file). Enable 'Delete voicemail after email' if the user wants the inbox kept clean. Requires a working SMTP configuration on the PBX (Admin > Email > SMTP settings). Use the same SMTP setup as other system emails. If voicemail emails aren't arriving, check spam folders first, then verify SMTP credentials and test with 3CX's email test function. Some email providers (Office 365) require SMTP AUTH to be enabled for the sending account. For privacy, advise users that voicemail attachments can be forwarded from their email — sensitive voicemails should be accessed directly from the phone.
