Microsoft 365 Security Score: Understanding and Improving It

Microsoft Secure Score (security.microsoft.com > Secure Score) rates your Microsoft 365 security posture on a scale from 0 to 100. Each point represents a security improvement action — enabling MFA, blocking legacy auth, enabling audit logging, and so on. A higher score means a more secure configuration. Review the Improvement actions tab for a prioritized list of recommended actions. Each action shows the potential point gain and implementation difficulty. Focus on high-impact, quick-win actions first: enabling MFA for all admins, enabling unified audit logging, and blocking legacy authentication protocols. Track your score over time to demonstrate security improvement to management. Compare against industry benchmarks shown in the portal. Don't chase the score blindly — some actions may not be appropriate for your organization. Use the score as a structured checklist rather than an absolute target.
