The Yealink T54W has built-in dual-band Wi-Fi, allowing it to connect to your network wirelessly instead of using an Ethernet cable. Note: a wired connection is always preferred for better call quality.
When to use Wi-Fi:
Only use Wi-Fi if running an Ethernet cable to the phone's location is not practical. For best call quality and reliability, wired Ethernet is strongly recommended.
Connecting to Wi-Fi:
Step 1: Make sure the Wi-Fi antenna is attached
The T54W ships with a small Wi-Fi antenna that screws into the back of the phone. If the phone is using Wi-Fi, this must be attached.
Step 2: Enable Wi-Fi on the phone
Press Menu > Basic > Wi-Fi
Toggle Wi-Fi to On if it isn't already.
Step 3: Scan for networks
With Wi-Fi enabled, the phone automatically scans for nearby networks.
Your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) should appear in the list.
Select your network and press Connect.
Step 4: Enter the Wi-Fi password
Use the phone's keypad to enter the Wi-Fi password.
- For letters: press the number key multiple times to cycle through letters (like old cell phone texting), or use the 123/ABC toggle softkey to switch between modes
- Press OK or Save when done
Step 5: Confirm connection
The Wi-Fi icon appears at the top of the screen when connected. The phone will register with the phone system over Wi-Fi.
If the phone keeps dropping Wi-Fi:
- Move it closer to the Wi-Fi access point
- Check that the antenna is firmly attached and positioned upright
- Consider using a wired connection instead — Wi-Fi dropout directly causes dropped calls
- Check if the access point is using a 5GHz-only network — the T54W supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz
Switching back to wired:
Plug an Ethernet cable into the phone's PC/LAN port. The phone will prefer wired over Wi-Fi when a cable is connected.
