Can't be heard in a Teams meeting, or can't hear others? Here's how to fix audio issues in Microsoft Teams.
Step 1: Check Teams audio device settings
In a Teams call or meeting, click the three dots (...) > Device settings. Make sure the correct Speaker and Microphone are selected. If you're using a headset, select it here — not the built-in speakers.
Step 2: Check Windows privacy settings
Windows may be blocking Teams from using your microphone.
1. Open Windows Settings (Win + I)
2. Go to Privacy > Microphone
3. Make sure "Allow apps to access your microphone" is On
4. Scroll down and make sure Microsoft Teams is enabled
Step 3: Test your microphone in Teams
In Teams, click your profile picture > Settings > Devices. Click "Make a test call" — this will let you record and play back your voice to confirm the mic is working.
Step 4: Check your headset/speaker connection
Unplug your headset or speaker and plug it back in. For USB devices, try a different USB port. For Bluetooth headsets, disconnect and reconnect via Bluetooth settings.
Step 5: Set the audio device as default in Windows
Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar > Sounds > Playback tab. Right-click your headset or speaker and select "Set as Default Device." Do the same in the Recording tab for your microphone.
Step 6: Update audio drivers
Outdated audio drivers can cause microphone issues. Open Device Manager (search for it in Start), expand "Sound, video and game controllers," right-click your audio device, and select "Update driver."
Step 7: Restart Teams
Close Teams completely (right-click the Teams icon in the system tray > Quit). Reopen it and test again.
Contact us if these steps don't resolve the issue — hardware faults or driver conflicts may require hands-on support.
