Windows Hello: Setting Up PIN, Fingerprint, or Face Login

Windows Hello lets you sign in to your computer with a PIN, fingerprint, or face scan instead of typing a long password. It's faster, more convenient, and actually more secure for everyday use. Why Windows Hello is more secure than a password: Your password can be intercepted over a network or stolen from a data breach. Your Windows Hello PIN, fingerprint, or face data stays on your device and never goes anywhere — it can't be stolen remotely. Setting up a PIN: 1. Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options 2. Under "PIN (Windows Hello)," click Add (or Set up) 3. Verify your Microsoft account password when prompted 4. Choose a PIN — at least 4 digits, but we recommend 6+ digits or a mix of letters and numbers for better security 5. Click OK Setting up Fingerprint recognition (requires a fingerprint reader): 1. Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello) 2. Click Set up > Get started 3. Verify your current password or PIN 4. Place your finger on the sensor and lift, repeatedly, following the on-screen guide — scan it from multiple angles for reliability 5. Click Add another finger to register a second finger (recommended — in case your primary finger is unavailable) Setting up Face recognition (requires a compatible webcam/IR camera): 1. Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Facial recognition (Windows Hello) 2. Click Set up > Get started 3. Verify your password or PIN 4. Look directly at the camera — Windows scans your face automatically 5. Click Improve recognition to add more scans in different lighting conditions Using Windows Hello to sign in: - PIN: Your PIN only works on your device — it can't be used elsewhere even if someone learns it - Fingerprint: Touch the sensor when the lock screen appears - Face: Just look at the screen — Windows signs you in automatically Troubleshooting: - Face recognition not working: Make sure lighting is adequate and you're directly facing the camera. Click "Improve recognition" to add more face data - Fingerprint not recognized: Re-register the finger (remove and add again), or add a second finger - "This option is currently unavailable": You may need to sign in with your password first, then set up Hello
